Comparatively smaller than lake Naivasha, Lake Nakuru (68km2) is a shallow lake in central Kenya but considered one of Kenya`s finest national parks. The lake’s abundance of algae attracts vast quantities of lesser flamingos, sometimes more than one million at once.
Major Attractions:
There are three picturesque view points from where you obtain sweeping views of the natural beauty. These are; Lion hill, Baboon cliff and Out of Africa. There are also several hills surrounding the park namely; Enasoit, Honeymoon and the Lion hill ridge. The Makalia water falls is also a major attraction in this park.
The park features unique vegetation: About 550 different plant species including the unique and biggest euphorbia forest in Africa, Picturesque landscape and yellow acacia woodlands.
Wildlife:
The park is gorgeous year-round and is home to 56 different species of mammals including white rhinos, waterbuck, leopard, lions, giraffe, etc. The park is famous for its Flamingoes (Greater and Lesser) and other water birds including a variety of terrestrial birds numbering about 450 species in total.

Did you know?
Lake Nakuru National Park was first designated as a bird sanctuary in the 1950s and the park then comprised of Lake Nakuru and a few kilometers of the Lake’s surrounding area. In the 1960s the park was expanded to include the savannah area and animals were introduced into the park graduating it from only birds; in 1968 Lake Nakuru National Park was officially gazetted as a National Park.
Lake Nakuru National Park is also a Rhino Sanctuary, the first ever Rhino Sanctuary in Kenya and among the biggest Rhino sanctuaries in the country. The sanctuary has over 100 endangered Rhinos distributed between the black and white Rhinos.
